About Us
The ARIZONA METH PROJECT is a large-scale exercise in prevention, aimed at significantly reducing Meth use in Arizona. The integrated program consists of an ongoing, research-based marketing campaign, supported by community outreach and public policy initiatives, that realistically and graphically communicates the risks of methamphetamine to the youth of Arizona.

NEW! National Costs of Meth Use

A RAND Corporation study released entitled “The Economic Cost of Methamphetamine Use in the United States,” estimates the national cost of Meth use, for one year, is $23.4 billion.  The study represents the first comprehensive assessment of the annual costs of methamphetamine abuse.

In 2006, the Arizona Youth Survey (AYS) helped call attention to Meth use among teens in Arizona as a real and growing problem. That year the AYS indicated that 4.3% of our state’s 8th, 10th and 12th graders had tried Meth, which was twice the national average. After two waves of the ARIZONA METH PROJECT advertising campaign and other prevention, education, law enforcement, and treatment efforts, the 2008 AYS survey now indicates that 2.2% of the state's 8th, 10th and 12th graders have tried Meth, which represents a statistically significant reduction.

The prevention program, which was designed by the Meth Project , combines advertising with community-based programs and was started in Montana as the Montana Meth Project. The Montana Meth Project has demonstrated significant results in changing attitudes and behaviors towards Meth since its inception in 2005 and was recently cited as a model for the nation by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. The Meth Project is working with states across the nation interested in replicating the program as part of their efforts to reduce the prevalence of methamphetamine use. The Meth Project is currently active in Montana, Idaho, Illinois, Wyoming, and Colorado.
